A Little Sewing from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. I'm writing fast this morning, as I often do on Saturdays. We're heading off to the farmer's market. It seems I should be able to get some good tomatoes by now, and so I'm on the hunt for gazpacho ingredients. It's a seasonal favorite when tomatoes are at their best.

Yesterday was fairly relaxed. The "Find Matching Socks" piece is off to a good start. It should be finished today or tomorrow. After that, I'll add borders to both blocks.

Cooling Off from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. The clouds have moved in, and we're expecting cooler weather today. By tomorrow, we're hoping we can turn off the A/C. I miss having the windows open, especially at night.

It didn't seem like much was accomplished yesterday, although I finished all the to-do's on my list. We got our RSV vaccines in the morning. We go to a Safeway pharmacy, and they give us a 10% off coupon when we get our vaccines there. It seemed like a good enough reason to do our grocery shopping. Since our diet has ...

More Planning from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. It's a new week. Are you feeling refreshed? We had a quiet but busy week last week. We were both feeling a little rickety last night. Aside from the usual household chores and sewing, I pulled a bucket of weeds. That means lots of sitting down and getting up again, which is at least as tiring as the task itself. Mike kindly installed drip irrigation for the dahlias and the hanging petunia baskets. It occurred to me that someone would need to be around to water the dahlias when we leave on our September trip ...

A Better Day from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. It's a cloudy day here. There's even the tiniest chance of rain. There is also some concern about thunder and lightening, which could set off wildfires. But let's just not borrow trouble, okay? For the most part, our weather has been very nice this summer. We've had a few warm days, but nothing too hot. There's been no rain to speak of, although we're getting to the point that a little rain would be welcomed.

My day started early. I was out to check the trap for the green bean-thieving ...

A Good Day Goes Bad from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. We've managed to get through another week. Just as I wrote that word "week," I remembered something I heard on the radio yesterday as I was driving to the salon for my pedicure. An author was being interviewed, and the two speakers acknowledged that humans have an average life span of just 4,000 weeks. This assumes that a person will live to be 77.9 years of age. Of course, some live longer, and some live less long. Just now I used a pencil and paper to figure which week I'm in right ...

Two Little Finishes from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. There's another busy day ahead. Last night, as I was considering it, I had to talk myself down from the ledge as my anxiety built. I'm not generally an anxious person. I put myself more on the worrier spectrum, which is a complete waste of time. Neverthless, someone has to do it, right? What if no one worries and something bad happens. And what if worrying could have prevented it? I rest my case. As for my worries of last night, I'll say more about it as I write.

First off, when I ...

Quilting Begins from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. The activities of yesterday morning took more time than expected. I ended up putting off hoeing the garden until this morning. Now, it urgently needs hoeing if I'm going to keep ahead of the weeds. So what was I doing that took so long? Well, of course, I spent a leisurely period of time taking the first stitches on the Fall Harvest.

After that, I made a salad for our dinner last night. Hamburgers were on the menu, and it seemed like a good time to try this new recipe for Roasted Hot Honey Sweet ...

A Friday's Friday from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. It's been a long while since Friday meant the end of the work week to me. It's been nearly 20 years since I retired. Yes, I retired young. It happens when you're a social worker working with people who have been traumatized. I've whined all week about how busy the past several days have been, but it ends with dinner guests tonight.

It isn't the fault of the dinner guests that I've been too busy. It's my own darned fault for putting virtually everything off until after our camping ...

An Update and a Quilt Shop from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. It's another busy day ahead. Happily, there's nothing that will take me away from home for at least several days. Just staying home makes the day a whole lot more peaceful. My apologies for teasing you with the quilt shop for the past few days. I'll finish off with our time traveling posts today and tell you all about it. But first, an update on yesterday's activities.

There were pickled beets to finish off. I managed to get five pints from my paltry harvest. As I mentioned, I supplemented with a few ...

Time Traveling: Day Two from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. As I mentioned in an earlier post, it's going to be a busy week for me. Today I'm driving across town to pick up a check for a classical guitar I sold on consignment. It's been at Old Town Music for over a year, and so I'm happy to get it sold. As long as I'm out, I'm going to make a quick stop at the grocery store to pick up something for tonight's dinner. I hate shopping on Monday's. We'll save our bigger shopping trip for ...
